London, Jan 15 (ANI): Mascara may soon become be a thing of the past, for scientists have created a drug that grows longer, thicker eyelashes. US pharmaceutical firm Allergan, which also markets popular wrinkle treatment Botox, is the company behind the drug, Latisse, reports the Sun.
It uses the same formula as glaucoma drug Lumigan after scientists noticed the anti-blindness treatment boosted lashes.
Trials showed that lashes became a quarter longer and twice as thick using Latisse.
The liquid, applied every night to the base of the hairs, also made them 18 per cent darker.
Latisse will be available on prescription in the US later this month, costing around 80 pounds for a full month-long course of treatment.
The drug is expected to be launched in the UK soon after, mainly through cosmetic doctors.
Cindy Ross, who took part in clinical trials, said: “People would say, ‘Are you wearing false eyelashes?’”
However, some doctors warned that the drug could have unwanted side effects — and change users’ eye-colour.
Glaucoma patients using the drug often have permanently darker eyes after six months of treatment.
Side effects can include temporary red eyes, itching and darker eyelids.
However, Allergan said 65 million bottles of Lumigan had been sold with no reports of serious injury.
I have been using eyeconditioner however it’s from Revitalash. I am satisfied with what it does, it enhanced my lashes naturally, it’s looking fuller and darker. I wan to try Lattise so I can have a comparison on which is better. Any ideas you can suggest?
I have not tried Allergan’s lash product yet, but I do use Revitalash and I seriously love what it has done for my lashes/brows! I also love that they are a conscious company (they give back to the cancer fighting community!). It seems like this product will be harsh on the eyes if you need a prescription to use it. Not to mention a pain in the butt to get ahold of; I had no idea having ugly lashes was a medical problem!! Why would I go through the hassle of going to my doctor for a product I can get at my salon. I also heard Latisse will cost $120 for a 1-2 month supply. So, not only is it expensive it is a hassle to get…
I have been using Revitalash very happily for over a year and love my new and improved lashes/brows… I know for me it took about a month to notice a difference and they reached their full potential soon after. If you don’t get the results you are looking for with your product I would seriously look into trying Revitalash!!
I’ve tried absolutely every mascara and I would have to say that Revitalash mascara is the best mascaras out there! I have short and thin eyelashes and have been asked on numerous occasions if I have had fake eyelashes on using these products!
